A marvellous event! The Bury-Clare Challenge is an event for walkers, joggers and runners along the 18 mile country footpath from Bury St Edmunds to Clare, in support of St Nicholas Hospice Care, organised by Positive Steps Events (https://positivestepspt.co.uk/events). It took place on Sunday 9th May 2021. The scenery over the undulating countryside of West Suffolk was lovely, the trail well marked and the weather perfect. Kevin and all the Positive Steps team were great, especially the volunteer marshalls along the route who were cheerful, encouraging and good-humoured. I was planning to walk but ended up jogging much of it, so was pleased! I carried far too much weight in my pack with too much water and a fleece I should have left in my car; will carry less next time! The event was Covid-safe and it was was awesome to be part of something after a year of lockdowns. Almost 300 people took part. Positive Steps raised £2,000 for St Nicholas Hospice Care, an amazing contribution.
I crossed the finish line in 4 hours 18 minutes. My left Achilles has been giving me jip all week so it has been a reminder that I need to take care of my own body in order to enjoy events, as well as looking after my clients!
The next Bury to Clare will be a Festive edition on Saturday 11 December and there will be another on Sunday 8 May, 2022. Take a look at the Positive Steps website for more details and entry, as well as their other events. Highly recommended!
